Stourbridge Dance Academy was delighted to join dance teachers and professionals in celebrating an extraordinary milestone: 120 years of the National Association of Teachers of Dancing.
SDA Principal Beverley Hadley attended the NATD Multi-Genre Dance Congress, held from 21 to 23 August 2026 at the Park Regis Hotel in Birmingham. The special anniversary weekend brought members of the dance community together to celebrate the association’s history, achievements and continuing contribution to dance education.
During the celebrations, Beverley was delighted to meet NATD CEO Kevin Page and President Sharon Potter.

Celebrating a remarkable dance legacy
Founded in 1906, the National Association of Teachers of Dancing has been supporting dance teachers and students for 120 years. Throughout its history, the organisation has developed dance syllabi, provided examination opportunities and encouraged high standards in dance teaching.
Its commitment to quality, progression and professional development closely reflects the approach to training at Stourbridge Dance Academy.
Through carefully structured classes, SDA students can develop strong technique, build confidence and work towards recognised NATD examinations when they are ready. Examinations provide dancers with clear goals and an opportunity to celebrate their progress while developing discipline, musicality and performance skills.
However, qualifications are only one part of the SDA experience. Students are equally encouraged to dance for enjoyment, form lasting friendships and develop a love of movement that can remain with them throughout their lives.
Bringing fresh inspiration back to SDA
Events such as the NATD Congress allow dance teachers to connect, exchange ideas and celebrate their shared passion for dance education.
For Beverley, the anniversary weekend was also an opportunity to reflect on the generations of teachers and dancers who have contributed to the NATD’s story—and to look forward to its future.
That inspiration now returns to the studio, where SDA continues its own proud tradition of helping dancers grow from their first steps into confident performers.
